Prattens Bowls Club officially opened their green for the new outdoor season last Saturday and many of the members braved the cool weather to get the feel of bowling outdoors again.
On Sunday, a good number of Prattens Bowls Club members met for the traditional season curtain-raiser of
President's Day.
As a fitting start to the afternoon, the club was presented with a new hardwood seat from the family of the late Jean and Edgar Davis, who had been very loyal members of Prattens Bowls Club. Sadly, both had passed away in recent years. The picture shows many of the members present for the game and (seated) Jean and Edgar's son, Steve Davis, his wife, Ann Marie, and the
President, Robert Pemberton. For the pedantic amongst us (myself included) the seat will normally be positioned facing the green.
Following this, Robert Pemberton took charge of the proceedings and started with a 'spider' competition (won by Caryl Doel) followed by a lighthearted game of bowls. Rinks were changed every four ends to ensure that all members played against as many other players as possible. The teams playing were representing the President and the Men's Captain, Barrie Dando, and the President's team were the winners.
This was followed by a sumptuous tea of sandwiches and cakes, which had been prepared by the President's wife, Barbara Pemberton, and her friend, Margaret Shearn.
After tea, the President wished everyone a good season before everyone left to go home.
The club will be holding Open Sessions to 'have a go' on the afternoons of 19th and 26th April, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and those who would like to try the game or just come along to see if they might be interested will be welcomed.
If anyone wishes to join the club (or discuss joining the club) and cannot make it to the Open Sessions, contact Barrie or Pauline Dando on: 01761 412705 or come along to the club evening on Mondays.
