On a perfect summer’s evening (Tuesday, 23rd August), Westfield Pétanque Club were pleased to welcome The Midsomer Norton and District Twinning Association and their French visitors to Norton Hill Recreation Ground, for a truly international game of boules.

In the true spirit of ‘Entente Cordiale’, teams played for the first ever ‘Westfield Challenge Cup’. The games were played in very high spirits, egged on by the numerous supporters, and best of all, the sun shone throughout! Delicious food and wine had been provided to sustain the players, and supporters, which certainly added to the ‘joie de vivre’.

The winning team (sadly not the Pétanque Club!) received the cup, Gold medals for all the team members, and a bottle of wine from the very first visit of our friends from Ambares et Lagrave in 1983.

Boules are played every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., on Norton Hill Recreation Ground throughout the summer and everyone is welcome. If you are interested, just turn up, no experience or equipment needed. For details, contact Diana Cooper: 01761 415155.
