Mendip Ladies Hockey First team showed great determination in the face of the elements on Saturday, and came away with a hard-earned point.
Weston had the better of the opening exchanges, drawing some excellent tackles from the Mendip defence, and a couple of notable saves from keeper, Carrie Tiley. The visitors took the lead against the run of play, with Charlene Taylor popping up to slot home a well-taken rebound after Georgie Kelly’s fierce shot was saved. Mendip pressed forward in the second half, but it was Weston’s turn to score on the counter-attack; one goal from open play and a second from a well-drilled penalty corner saw the home side take the lead.
With time running out, Taylor struck for the second time from a super penalty corner routine to pull Mendip level and ensure a share of the points. This Saturday, Mendip are at home to Old Bristolians from 10.30 a.m. at Chew Valley School.
