One hundred and seven members supported Stuart Disney’s Pro Weekend, this year run as a stableford event.
Wonderful weather combined with the course being presented in pristine condition by Richard Gregory and his Greens Team led to some excellent scoring with 25 players playing to or beating 36 points. The Ladies first Prize went to young Connie Cox with 40 points with Helen Roberts second with 38 and Louise Scott third with 37. Dilan Perkins won the Junior Prize with 36 points with Ben Roberts seocnd with 35. Alec Roberts took first prize in the Mens Division with 43, with Mark George second with 42 after count back from Andrew Thatcher.
The Men’s Avalon B Team wrapped up their season with a 5-0 win over Mendip Spring and finish third in their Division. Wins came from Paul Smith/Phil Leadbeater, Tony Scott/Cliff Hall, Alexander Gay, playing in his first match for the Club/Richard Clifford, Lee Moore/Jack Harrington and Liam Robertson/Rob Cook. After a shaky start to the season the team grew in confidence and some formidable partnerships developed. All bodes well for an even more successful 2023 season. Team Captain Rob Cook thanked all his players for contributing to the very strong team spirit that developed over the season.
Nearest the Pin this week went to Matt Bendall with Chris Butland second and Andy Humphries third.
The ladies played the Daily Mail Qualifying Foursomes event which saw a win for Lulu Carolan and Lynn Cox with 38 points on countback from Libby Bellew and Gina Howard. Sue Alcock and Kay O’Connor were third with 37. The ICL Team visited Worlebury and went down 2-5. Mendip’s points came from a win from Lulu Carolan and halves from Chris Williams and Ali Kay. This means that they will remain in their Division next season.
The Ladies Fanstone K O Cup was won by Chris Down, beating Susy Rudkin in the Final
Sixty two seniors played in the Seniors Pairs event which saw a win for Wayne Spencer/Nick Inskip with a tremendous 46 points. David Pilbeam/Robert Miller were second with 44 and Mike Snaith/Chris Giles were third with 43 after count back from Bill Chard/John Treeby.
A very successful Seniors Mixed Open event saw 30 couples from a variety of clubs competing. The 1st Members Prize went to low handicapper Ian Hall playing with the always hard working Chair of the Captains Committee Nola Russell with an excellent 44 points. The same score gave the 1st Visitors prize to Kathleen and Geoffrey Ogden from Bath. 2nd Visitors with again with 44 went to Anthony & Christine Sandford from the Singing Hills G C ( no, I had not either! It is in West Sussex). Third Visitors were Geoff Garrett and Karen Major from Teign Valley with 42. Best Member/Visitor prize went to David Jukes playing with his wife Christine who plays at Wells, with 40 points. Tony Williams
