Mendip earned a valuable away point at a snowy Gordano School on Saturday, as they continue to fight against relegation from Brunel One.

Despite the Arctic conditions, the visitors started brightly, with captain, Jackie Browning, making some strong runs from midfield, and Karen Inns carrying the ball well down the right. North Somerset opened the scoring against the run of play, with a fiercely-struck penalty corner midway through the first half.

Mendip responded well. Central-midfielder, Sally Stanford, worked hard to link up with youngsters Ella Constable and Amy McGowan, but Mendip could not find the perfect final ball into the D.

The second half saw Mendip more than match their opponents, and when centre-back, Jess Baird, dispatched a late penalty corner with an excellent strike, the relief amongst the team was palpable.

Baird received the player of the match vote. This Saturday, the Seconds welcome Old Bristolians to Norton Hill at 10.30 a.m.
