Mendip put up a brave fight against a very competitive Buccs outfit on Saturday, but ultimately succumbed to their first League defeat of the season.
The first half saw both sides have periods of dominance and possession, with Mendip’s Player of the Match, Anna Swift, working hard to control the defence, and defensive midfielders, April Callow and Hayley Bullock, distributing the ball well. Buccs took the lead moments before half-time, with a quickfire shot that caught the Mendip defence on the hop and deflected up and into the goal.
All four Mendip forwards worked hard through the second half, and drew some good stops from the Buccs defence. However, an equalising goal was just out of reach, and Buccs sealed the victory with a well-worked penalty corner to make it 2–0. This Saturday, 13th October, Mendip travel to Weston-super-Mare. Mendip Ladies Seconds lost 3–2 at Shepton Mallet, while the Thirds lost 7–0 at home to Winscombe. Mendip Men’s First team drew 2–2 at Bath Buccs E, and the Men’s Seconds lost 2–1 at home to Bridgwater B.
