A half term friendly fixture saw Mendip travel to face Mid Somerset, looking to gain some momentum for their important upcoming league fixtures.

The first half of the game saw the two teams evenly matched, with Mendip having lots of possession allowing them to pass the ball well and threaten a goal on many occasions. The speedy opposition were dangerous on the counter attack, but the visiting defence were up to the task and keeper, Oenone Bodman-Harris, pulled off some impressive saves to keep her team in contention and earned herself player of the match in the process. Perhaps against the run of play, Mendip found themselves 1-0 down at half time, after a defensive scrabble saw the ball reach back of the net.

Not to be deterred by this, Mendip came out strong in the second half and continued to create many attacking chances. They were rewarded for their efforts, with left wing, Amy McGowan, slotting the ball home, to finish off a lovely passage of play by Mendip.

Mid Somerset continued to pressure the visitors, and certainly kept the defence busy in the final stages of the match. The home team scored twice more, to put the final score at 3-1, despite the best efforts of the Mendip defence.

Next week Mendip have a league fixture against Keynsham, at Wellsway School, 12:30 p.m. pushback.

The Ladies’ First Team lost 3-1 in a friendly against BAC, with Captain, April Callow, scoring Mendip’s goal from a penalty corner and Anna Swift winning the player of the match award for some excellent tackles and driving runs.

On Saturday, 24th February, they resume league action, welcoming Taw Valley to Norton Hill (1:30pm).
