Mendip Men's First 6 Mid Somerset 1

Mendip get off to a superb start with a very dominant performance. A hat-trick for new striker Cal Harvey set the tone of expectation for the season.

The Mendip Men’s 1's started their season at home to Mid Somerset. With a great pre-season build up and the addition of a new face (from Mid Somerset) were full of big expectations for the season.

The game started in a typical season opener fashion, edgy for the first ten minutes with flashes of good attacking play from the boys in yellow and blue. But it was Mids that produced the two best opening chances with quick thinking and fast movement through the middle of the park. Their best chance coming from a shot from just outside the D, which GK John ‘JC’ Carroll left to enter his goal. Luckily umpire Mike Bristowe fully agreed the ball was outside the D.

After this, Mendip settled and the nerves disappeared, started to dominate possession and carved out some excellent chances with our top three of James England, Owen Harries and Callum Harvey, causing all kinds of problems for the Mids defenders. With an inspired Mids GK performance, the first goal took a bit longer than expected but soon arrived following a flowing move typically down the right hand side of the pitch with Max Bartlett twirling to set up a shot at goal that was collected off the GK’s pads by James England who slotted home.

After this the yellow onslaught continued, utterly dominant up to half time with a 3-0 lead. More of the same was Skipper Max Spalton’s orders with the next goal being a killer blow. When Mendip regained their breath and attacked again, another goal followed.

5-0, in complete control and utterly dominant, Adam Forsyth took on a risky aerial pass from defence that was well collected by a Mids player who rifled a pass into the D for a well taken deflection at the near post, nothing JC can do for those ones.

To rebalance the score line, yet again Mendip ramped up their intensity and a sixth goal followed. 6-1 the final score, some superb goals scored and Mendip coming out of the blocks hot. A superb performance and Callum Harvey starting with a dream debut hat-trick.

Goal scorers were Callum Harvey (3), James England (2) and Josh Sutton with Callum Harvey as man of the match.
