Oh! What a super sunny Sunday we had for our Away Day. We were up bright and early for our trip to Southampton Old Bowling Club, which is believed to be the world's oldest bowling green, first used in 1299.
After the game, we enjoyed a super meal and it was fascinating to learn of the various traditions which are still carried on in this ancient bowls club. One of the traditions being that if they lose the game, they have to sing to the victors – a 'threat' which they seemed to think would guarantee them a win, however, we were not to be put off and with Norwest claiming a two- point victory, we were duly serenaded! Thanks to Eric for organising the trip, our raffle girls, John Martin Coaches and our driver, Billy. A brilliant day all round!
Not the best week all round for Norwest, with the Ladies losing to Frome Park on Tuesday, the Men losing 12–4 on Wednesday against Street and on Friday, a mixed team following the trend, lost a MMSL game at Purnell. The Men's Saturday League B Team lost, only managing to claim one point of the twelve on offer, while our one bright spot of the week came with a 10–2 win for the A Team.
We will be saying our final farewell to Marian, our Club President, on Friday, 1st August, at 11 a.m., when her funeral will be held at St John's Church, in Midsomer Norton. Our Ladies will form a Guard of Honour (whites please). The service will be followed by committal at Haycombe crematorium, in Bath, and afterwards, at Norwest Bowls Club.
