At the ASA South West Conference, held in Taunton last weekend, Norton Radstock volunteers attended their final development day and received certificates for completing their programmes. Five candidates, Hannah Angell, Katie Ball, Maisie Gudmunsen, Millie Long and Kate Rowell, were selected to participate in the 2013/14 Somerset Young Volunteer Programme. The objective was to develop their aquatic knowledge using modules covering poolside / administrative tasks, attend a Level One Team Manager / Aquatic Event Organiser Course and complete 25 hours of volunteering within a Swim 21 accredited club and at Somerset county events. The young volunteers were also instrumental in organising fundraising activities supporting CLIC Sargent at the Annual Spring Sprint Gala. Hannah comments that the range of experiences the programme has provided have been enjoyable and valuable.
2012/13 Somerset Young Volunteer graduate, Sam Church, was selected to join the Somerset Young Coaches Academy. The programme was developed to encourage sixteen to eighteen-year-olds to continue their aquatic learning within a Somerset ASA affiliated club. Sam received a bursary towards an ASA Level One Course, attended coaching development sessions and has continued volunteering at Norton Radstock. The committee would like to thank our young volunteers for the commitment they have shown throughout the programmes and for being great ambassadors for the club. The feedback received from the course administrators on the enthusiasm of the candidates has been excellent.
