Radstock’s Ross Whittock, co-driving for his British Rally Championship driver, Jamie Anderson, in the Ford Fiesta R5, took overall honours last weekend on the Severn Valley Stages based in Builth Wells.

The 130-strong entry event which was a round of the MSA British Historic Rally Championship ran seven special stages in the local forests, including the famous Radnor and Crychan complex.

Jamie and Ross decided to enter this event for more practice in view of the next round of the British Rally Championship in three weeks’ time, based in Scotland, of which they are lying in eighth place.

The duo decided to start as they intended to continue throughout the event, and set six fastest times out of a total of seven. At the end of this 45 miles of stages, they finish fourteen seconds in front of National Championship front runner, Luke Francis, in a Mitsubishi Evo 9 rally car.

This result was very special for Ross, as it was his first overall win on a stage rally. Ross said: “I am really grateful to have had the opportunity to compete with Jamie this season and the partnership is working fine, but the focus is on the Scottish Rally at the end of June.”
