What a great week it was for the lads at Purnell Bowls Club! On Wednesday, they beat Sydney Gardens at home, 14–2, in the Mid-Somerset League Division Two. They had to wait for the result to come through from Victoria, Bath, who were playing Chew Stoke, which would decide the winners of the league and get promoted to Division One.

It was good news, as Chew Stoke won 14–2 as well, but they could not match Purnell's shot difference and the printers won the league by the narrow margin of just four shots.

On Saturday, the A Team travelled to Bloomfield and for the second year running, came away winning on all three rinks, taking all twelve points. This result takes them away from the relegation zone.

The C Team played out a very good game at home to Keynsham C, winning well on two rinks, one of which, at one point, was down 4–16, but came through with a great win, 25–16. The third rink could not quite make it and lost by just two shots.

The Ladies started their week on Tuesday away to Bloomfield and lost by just one shot, then, on Thursday, they beat Weston, Bath, at home on all rinks. On Saturday, they beat local rivals, Norwest, at home, winning on two rinks and losing on one.

On Sunday, Purnell hosted the Somerset County Wedmore Plate semi-final between Wilmott Park, Bristol, and Weston, Bath. Weston ran out the winners by just twelve shots and it was a great afternoon, with players saying it was the best green they had played on this year. The ladies of the club provided an excellent post-match meal.

Purnell's green is the place to be on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. with an excellent group of qualified Coaches in attendance. Anyone interested in taking up bowls can just turn up – all equipment will be provided and it is completely free.
