The annual Norton Hill Sports Award evening was again a resounding success with some stunning achievements recognised across the full range of sports.
Over 100 youngsters received nominations and it was a delight to hear about their achievements. A number of teams and individuals have experienced tremendous success and the event confirmed again that Norton Hill School is not only excellent in terms of academic outcomes, but a leading school for sport too.
Alun Williams, Headteacher, said: “I always feel so proud of the achievements of youngsters in sport at Norton Hill. So many students take part in our inter-house competitions and get their first taste of winning. Then I’m amazed when I see the same youngsters competing and usually winning again at county, regional and even national level. You also find out things about some youngsters that you didn’t know – for example, a year 10 student has gone unbeaten for two years in badminton competitions in B&NES and beyond – a stunning achievement.”
Stand out performances this year include: C. Sprague – Fastest 100m runner in the country in his age group and potential Olympic star. He ran 100m in 10.98 seconds recently at Bath, quicker than many professional Athletes; C. Elliott, who has been unbeaten in badminton for two years in local and county competitions; the Year 11 football team – Quarter Finalists in the national competition, District winners and BANES champions; E. Robinson, who plays county level netball and E. Rose-Young, county swimmer.
