2014 got off to a great start for four of the men at Purnell Indoor Bowls Club overcoming a potentially difficult trip to Clarrie Dunbar, Beckington, in the National Over-Sixties Fours Competition.
Alan Gilbert, Ron Ferris, Mike Pratt and John Mathews played very well to beat a strong four at Clarrie Dunbar, Skipped by the very experienced Alan Colbrooke.
It was a close game early on, then the Purnell lads upped their game over the last ten ends to win 20–11, with no need to play the last end.
They now have another difficult away trip to either Ilminster or Donyat who are still to play their game. We all wish them the best of luck, with a win taking them to the National Finals at Nottingham later in the year.
If you are looking for a new game, just come along any Saturday morning at 10 a.m. to Purnell Indoor Bowls Centre, with coaching and equipment provided and it's for any age, mothers and fathers can play alongside their sons and daughters.
Purnell are gearing up for what is hoped will be a fine hot summer, the green is looking in great shape, with extra funds having been made available for extra
improvements for the second year running.
