After the frustration over the past three weeks for Purnell Bowls Club’s Men’s A team, when they won on two out of the three rinks at home against Bloomfield, then repeated the same result again away to top club Clevedon, it was disappointing that they lost last Saturday at home against Taunton.

With the very last bowl of a three-hour game, the visitors’ Skip drew second bowl to win the game by one shot, another disappointing result which leaves Purnell without a win in the Premier League this season.

The youngsters in the C team helped the team to beat Alexandra at home, winning on all rinks.

Playing away to Yatton in the Quarter-Final of the Wedmore Plate, the Men managed a convincing result, winning on three rinks and drawing on one. They now play Fry’s at Bloomfield on Sunday of this week in the Semi-Final.

In the Fear Plate, the Ladies had a disappointing result away to Portishead, winning on one rink, drawing on another, but losing on one. Losing the game on overall shot difference, they had two good results in the week, beating Weston Bath, away and Norwest, home.

Not to be downhearted about the results this season, the members are enjoying the Friday social nights. Last week, they were entertained by ‘Play it again Steve’, after some tremendous food put on by Bob and Mel. Dave and Jan Goodwin won both the members’ draw and the bingo, lucky things!
