A productive weekend laying foundations for the club started last Friday night at the Broad Plain show in Bristol with Michael Gregory having his last skills bout.

It was also the first appearance of newly qualified coach Ashley Hitchcott working Michael’s corner.

“Michael did a great job, he boxed well and moved well and is more than ready for his first competitive bout” said Ashley.

Saturday was a trip to the Forest ABC show in Cinderford. Boxing there was Mason Messenger, who’s making great progress and is looking better each time he boxes.

“Im always impressed with young Mason and his attitude each time I match him. If he carries on like that and takes it into his first competitive bout he’ll do well.”

A new star is born in the name of ‘Big’ Ollie Ashton. Having his first bout, Ollie, seventeen and weighing ninety kilograms, came out determined to be stronger and more aggressive than his hometown opponent and he did so in abundance.

From the first bell his rapid left, rights and quick footwork were the difference between the two.

Ollie made solid connections every time he landed that encouraged the ref to give his dazed opponent two standing counts before calling a halt to the action in the first round. Still things to work on but pleased he got the win - onto the next.

“Ollie, Michael and Mason will all be featuring on the club show Sunday, 5th March at Conygre Hall in Timsbury. Come and show your support for each of the nine boxers representing the club as well as a packed undercard featuring eleven Western Counties Junior Finals. It promises to be a great day showcasing the finest boxers in the Western Counties.” Said Coach Sean.

Doors open at 1pm for the event, tickets available on the door (cash only). Boxing starts at 2pm.
