The Classic Sports Car meeting at Castle Combe last weekend had the advantage of good weather over the two days.
Saturday’s meeting kicked off with the Swinging 60’s race for cars of that period. The first group for cars up to 1800cc was the first of seven races in the programme. Radstock’s Ross Whittock and the Howell brothers, Ollie and Julian, were all entered in their Classic Minis.
As expected, the experience of Ollie shone from the start and he created himself an unstoppable lead. Ross set himself personal best lap times, as he mixed with the best in mid-field to get up to sixth place before the mandatory pit stop in the forty minute races.
A couple of places were lost for Ross in the pits but good lap times saw him secure a creditable tenth place in this 32-car grid. Julian took over from Ollie in the pit break and as predicted, drove a calculated race to finish in first place overall.
