Bristol Reservoir Fly Fishers Association (BRFFA), in conjunction with long-standing sponsor, Orvis UK, hosted their annual Floating Line Classic Competition at Chew Valley Lake on Sunday, 14th June.

The field of more than fifty anglers set off from the

jetties at 10 a.m. in perfect conditions with high expectations. Broken cloud cover and a warm, light breeze ensured Chew's hard-fighting brown and rainbow trout were actively feeding throughout the day and rarely ventured from the very top of the water.

Chew maintained its sensational form, with anglers finding good numbers of fish across many areas of the lake. Competitors managed to catch steadily during the match, with successful tactics ranging from accurately presented dry flies fished just in the surface film to Blobs, FABs and Boobies pulled across the path of moving fish.

As match competitors gathered around the scales, it quickly became apparent that imperious Anglo Welsh Captain and England International, Dave Reynolds, had abated the challenge from a very strong field. Dave

managed his twelve fish limit, weighing an incredible 37lbs 4oz by covering moving fish with a combination on FABs and Nymphs.

Results: Dave Reynolds, 37lbs 4oz, Mark Thomas, 35lbs 1oz, John Wingrove, 28lbs 10oz, Dave Johns, 27lbs 14oz, Paul Jones, 27lbs 10oz, Geoff Lambert, 26lbs 12oz, Mark Withyman, 26lbs 0oz, Paul Golding, 23lbs 6oz, Keith Gollop, 21lbs 5oz, Bill Pugh, 21lbs 0oz.

The BRFFA's next competition for boat and bank

anglers is the Trout Watch Hidden Teams, which will be held on Chew Valley Lake on 26th July. For an entry form and further information, please visit: http://www.brffa.com">www.brffa.com
