CLEVEDON 14 MIDSOMER NORTON 27
After a long three-week break over the Christmas period, Norton travelled to Clevedon hoping to continue their recent form.
Clevedon started well, as they had possession of the ball for the opening ten minutes, putting a lot of pressure on Norton in their own 22.
However, Norton’s organised defence held firm, eventually turning the ball over, and they were able to exit their lines.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock, but after 25 minutes, Norton made a break in their own half through winger, Palmer, who offloaded to Schuster, then to Sawkins, who was able to beat two defenders to score the first points of the afternoon, 0-5.
Clevedon replied just before half-time with a try of their own, as they finally turned possession into points. The score was 7-5 at the break.
Clevedon were able to get on the scoresheet again just after half-time, the ball spilling out of the scrum allowed a player to run in unopposed, conversion being added.
After this, Norton really began to get in their stride. Playing to their strengths, they carried the ball well using the strong pack. Edgell ran a hard line to get in
behind the defence, and went on to sell an outrageous dummy to score a great individual try.
Taylor added the conversion, which was followed by a penalty. Shortly after, Norton were able to break down the Clevedon defence for fly-half, Sinden, to score, taking the score to 14-22.
Norton were left hunting for the try bonus point on the last play, in which they were successful. As the ball was passed down the line, Denning was on hand to dive over, taking the score to 14-27.
Midsomer Norton remain three points clear at the top of Western Counties North. On Saturday, 12th January, they play at home to Gordano; kick-off 2.15 p.m.
