Once again, Camvale Tennis Club in Paulton will be opening its courts and offering free tennis on Sunday, 15th May between 9.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. to all members of the local community, albeit new to the game, ‘rusty rackets’ or seasoned pro’s.
This free event, which is part of the Great British Tennis Weekend, was first started in 2014 and is aimed at encouraging more people to pick up a racket, go on court and enjoy the game.
Anybody attending Camvale Tennis Club’s event will be able to get involved in various tennis activities, all completely free. Rackets and tennis balls will be provided, so anyone and everyone can get involved, whether they have never tried tennis before, want to get back into the game, or are a regular player.
Activities include: Mini-Tennis (under-10s), Juniors, Mixed Family Play, Adult and Cardio Tennis (tennis-related exercises set to music). Advanced booking is recommended and can be made via the LTA website: www.greatbritishtennisweekend.com
In addition, Camvale Tennis Club is also hosting free tennis coaching sessions for new players aged five to eight-years-old. This is part of the Davis Cup Legacy Programme, where the aim is to encourage more young people to play tennis across the UK. In addition to free coaching, (six one hour sessions starting towards the end of May), all children completing the course will receive a free tennis racket. Places are limited, so book early via: www.lta.org.uk/tennisforkids
Brian Wessell, (Head Coach and Chair), says: “Once again, we are really excited to be running an Open Day as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend and also being able to provide free tennis lessons for young people. These initiatives provide two great opportunities to try tennis at absolutely no charge at Camvale Tennis Club and find out what a great and friendly sport it is, irrespective of age or ability.”
