One hundred and eleven Mendip men competed for the Sims Cup. Perfect playing conditions led to some fine scoring although with the course remaining challenging, four under was good enough to win the Cup.
Division Three was won by Cameron Elliott with 69 after count back from Graham Colbourne and Geoff Clarke. Divison Two went to Steve Coate with 68 with Roland Greenway second with 69 and Ken Langridge was third with 70. Division One saw a 68 from Matt Bendall, Alan Clarke was second with 70 and Steffan Golledge was third with 72 after countback. However 15 handicapper John Parham took the Cup with 67. Neil Onslow was best gross with 75.
The Mid Week Medal saw a win in Division One for two handicapper George Morgan with a net 69 2 ahead of Scott Butland.
Division Two saw Baden Wilkinson win with 71 after count back from Neil Clarke and Division Three went to Morgan Withers with 72 with Nigel Wiltshire second with 77.
Catching up with the results for the Avalon B Team sees a 2-3 defeat away to Weston with wins from Cliff Hall/Rob Ware and Tony Scott/Mark Necker. This was followed by defeat away to Fosseway with the solitary half gained by Tony Scott/Mark Necker.
These defeats were then followed by a home win over Wedmore 3½-1½ with wins coming from Shaun Robertson/Paul Smith, Tony Scott/Mark Necker and Rob Ware/Rob Cook with a half coming from Jack Harrington/Lee Moore. The Avalon C Team met defeat when visiting Burnham with a solitary half gained by Team Captain Malcolm Srawley/Paul Reakes. Difficult enough visiting Burnham without having to give a lot of shots.
Nearest the Pin went to Steve Davis with Paul Ashman second and John Scott third.
An excellent win for Mendip Juniors when playing Farrington in the semi finals of the Somerset Junior KO. Mendip’s wins came from the Roberts brothers Ben and Alec. Best of luck to them in the Final.
The Ladies held a Yellow Ball Bowmaker event which went to Jo Espley/Jenny Merrett/Suzy Rudkin/Pippa Brown with 115 points second with 113 were Jan Fukuyama/Mary Ainsworth/Chris Williams/Anita Butcher and Lynne Vowles/Fran Davies/Alison Kay/Val Dixon were third with 103.
The Ladies Alliance B Team met defeat 4-10 when visiting Bath. There was a win for Anne Hopkins and halves from Jenny Merrett and Anita Butcher.
The Seniors visited Bristol and Clifton and came away with a fine 3½-2½ win. Victorious for Mendip were Shaun Rich/John Brooksbank, Stephen Cox/Mike Snaith and Gareth Collier/Malcolm Dawkins with Steve Regler/Colin Davies gaining a valuable half. They followed this up with a convincing 5½-1½ when entertaining Knowle.
