Paulton's Spears travelled to Burton on 17th May in a must-win match to secure the desired Division Three league winners title. Under pressure, the team looked nervous against mid-table Robins in the first quarter, so much so that it affected their performance, leaving them trailing after the first quarter.
However, after a positive team talk from Captain, Kelly, the team took to the court with confidence to play some fantastically strong netball. Great movement in attack from Hayley and Ruby ensured that shooters, Cheryl and Milly, were able to find them easily to score some fantastic goals in high winds and heavy showers. Equally, in defence, Zoe, Pip, Amy and Kelly repeatedly overturned Robins' attacking play to ensure that the hosts were unable to maintain their first quarter form. With their nerves in check and confidence at an all-time high, the girls were able to ease away from Robins in a fantastic team performance to win by twenty goals, securing their place as league winners.
The club would like to congratulate Spears on their league win and promotion into Division Two. The result is an amazing achievement, as they were only formed a season ago with new players moving up from juniors and ladies from our Back to Netball programme joining the club. Over the last two years, they have worked hard and built on their skills to become one of the fastest rising squads within Somerset to move into the next division. The club wishes them all the best for next season, and is extremely proud of them. Paulton Rovers is also entering a fourth team in the Somerset League next season with tryouts for all four teams starting on 4th June at 7.30 p.m.

The feel-good factor continued for all members the following weekend, as they participated in the Time is Precious Charity Tournament at Writhlington School, where they finished fifth, sixth and seventh. All three teams were mixed up with juniors, Rebecca, Ellie and Shannon experiencing their first taste of senior netball in what was a fun-packed afternoon.
