Snow and ice on the Brecon Beacons last weekend saw the First Round of the RAC MSA Rally Championship, the Red Kite Rally, in the forests around Llandovery. Ross Whittock, from Radstock, navigated the Ford Escort, driven by Ben Llewellin, to a credible eighth overall out of more than 120 starters.
This was the first time together for this young pairing and the first time for both to encounter snow and ice in competition conditions. Ross said: "We prepared well and were both determined from the outset to get to the finish of this very tricky event. Besides a spin on the first stage, we got faster as the day progressed and were learning all the time."The Ford Escort, now suitable for Historic Events, ran without a hitch, thanks to support from Braces Bakery and AlcolockGB.
