Timsbury Athletic are through to the quarter-finals of the Somerset Senior Cup after a hard- fought 2–1 home victory over Radstock Town Reserves. Recent frosts made the pitch tacky and difficult for the players and the game was far from a classic.
Joe Parker had a great chance to give Timsbury an early lead, but his free header from Jimmy Hailston's cross went over the top. Radstock hit back and a free kick from Jack Seymour saw the ball strike the Timsbury bar after a goalmouth melee. Parker then found space in the Radstock box before shooting wide, while an effort from Sam Harrison was saved with difficulty by home keeper, Ben Paisey. A header from Justin Dowling from Andy Gulliford's cross was comfortably held by Radstock keeper, Dean Lewer, while a highly-forgettable first half ended with veteran, Lee Gould, shooting wide for the visitors.
Timsbury came out strongly after the break and after Lewer had saved from Dowling, the home side took a 52nd minute lead. Parker concluded a tricky run with a fine shot, which beat the outstretched hands of Lewer. Skipper, Ross Presley, then came close to an equaliser with a well-struck effort, which went just past the post and Paisey saved well from Seymour.
Radstock forced a series of corners and gained a reward for their pressure with a leveller on the hour. Defender, Declan Bridges, tried his luck from distance and hit a fine shot past Paisey. Timsbury went straight to the other end and a Dowling shot was pushed on to the bar by Lewer. The winning goal came fifteen minutes from time. Substitute, Mark Hancock, burst through and after his effort was parried by Lewer, Dowling shot home after a goalmouth scramble. Paisey did well to hold a shot from Seymour and Tony Pow was just wide in the last minute as Radstock strove for the equaliser. However, Timsbury held on to reach the last eight of the County Competition for the first time for many years.
Man of the Match in the game sponsored by Bryn Hawkins was Jimmy Hailston (Timsbury Athletic).
