Tony Cooper, of the Fosseway Bowls Club, pictured below, being congratulated by Don Bridges, President of the Somerset County Bowls Association, following his win over the Hampshire Champion in the
Champion of Champions National Finals held in Worthing. Unfortunately, Tony's next opponent was the very talented and experienced reigning Essex Singles and Pairs Champion, who on the day proved a little too good!
Well done to Tony on this great achievement and good luck in your next game, the Quarter-Finals of the Somerset County Open Championship at Taunton.
Can there be a better way of spending a beautiful
summer day than playing or watching a friendly, but
competitive, game of bowls? Sunday, 11th August was just such a day, when after three rounds, with a roast lunch between the first and second, the winners of the Centurion Cup were Sue Yarlett, Sheila Davis and John Price, beating Ron Ball, Allen Durnford and Terry Phillips in an exciting final.
Our Men had a magnificent win in the County League on Saturday, 17th August, when they achieved a maximum twelve points.
In the North Somerset Ladies League, in which there are ten clubs, our Ladies are still hovering between third and fourth position.
We are looking forward to hosting the Men's County
Patrons match on Thursday, 29th August, when they will be playing the City and County of Bristol. This game should be worth watching and spectators will be very welcome.
