Mendip knew to expect a tough encounter as on previous occasions, victories against Cheddar have been few and far between. The home team struggled to find their form, allowing the visitors time and space to play their game. Cheddar stamped their authority on the match and by half-time had a tally of four goals.

When Cheddar were two goals in front, Mendip managed to halve the deficit with a well-taken short corner routine. Left wing, Amy McGowan, was perfectly placed in the D to sweep the ball across the line.

In a game where Mendip were often on the back foot and chasing game play, one positive they can take from the match is that during the second half, they held Cheddar to scoring only one more goal. The home side did put some attacking moves together, but ultimately failed to convert their chances.

Next week, Mendip continue their league campaign and travel to play Keynsham, 2 p.m. at Wellsway School.
