There was a very good night for club boxers Jayden Walker and Mitchell Braithwaite last weekend in Wimbourne on the Mackenzies Boxing Academy show.
First up was Jayden who came out determined to finally get a win after three defeats. “Credit goes to his opponent Kiaran Ford from Sturminster for taking the bout at 3 days’ notice but I think Jay would have beaten AJ tonight, he was so focused and pumped up. I’m immensely proud of him for his perseverance and his never give up attitude despite all his setbacks over the last few years”.
Up next was Mitchell against another Sturminster boy, Ryan Aldridge. Determined to keep his unbeaten record he boxed really well matching his opponent punch for punch. Showing lots of improvement on his defence and counterpunching, Mitch was pushed hard and had to dig deep and is now 4 wins from 4. “After a closely fought bout between the two perfectly matched boys, Mitchell was a unanimous winner which I thought was a bit harsh on the other lad, although I had Mitch winning I thought it was going to be a split decision. Two wins out of two = one super proud coach, onwards and upwards.” said coach Sean Jenkins.
Preparations have started in the gym for the upcoming National Junior Championships of which both Jayden and Mitchell will feature. “February and March is a busy month for my boxers with club shows and the championships coming up so the intensity of their training has been turned up a notch. Creating a winning attitude within the gym amongst the lads is very important no matter what level the lads are boxing at so when we win, we win together because everyone has contributed to it whether it be training drills together, running together or sparring, it’s a team effort. Its great preparation for what’s coming next but we stay grounded and don’t get ahead of ourselves”.
