In the Ladies Daily Mail Foursomes Sue Hockey and Janice White were victorious over a strong field with a score of 73.5. Second were Jill Coglan and Julie Kinsey. Third placed were Philippa Gowen and Doreen Douglas. Hockey had decided on a game plan where she felt the eighteenth hole was important and that her tee shot would put the team in a good position for a par. All went according to plan on that hole to round off a steady game of golf.

Gerald Tonkins and Graeme Dowden won the recent men's Daily Mail Foursomes competition by the smallest of margins - 0.5 of a shot - from Mark and Robert Hynes. Their winning score of nett 75.5 was enough to see them through to the annual national Daily Mail knockout competition next year, where they will be representing Wells GC, best of luck for that. First: Gerald Tonkins and Graeme Dowden, Second: Mark and Robert Hynes, Third: George Davis and Vic Burgoyne and Fourth: Alan Obern and David Shepherd.

The Daily Mail Foursomes is regarded as the greatest amateur golfing event in the world with more than 190,000 players competing in their club qualifying rounds.

Entry is open to members of golf clubs in England, Scotland and Wales, with each club invited to enter one men's pair and one women's pair in the championships.
