Wells Ladies enjoyed an away day this week at Honiton Golf Club.

We were well looked after and the winners of the teams competition were Glynis Slater, Phyl Lewison, Marilyn Cole and Jenny Davis. The Captains’ Challenge is a Greensomes and 16 pairs played with the aim of beating the captains score.

The scores were close but congratulations go to the captains who won on the countback. The results were Katrina Foote and Mike McKay - 43 points (c/b), second Polly and Andy Williams - 43 points, third Gill and Mike Magrath - 42 points.

Graham Bingham won the Seniors’ Abbey Trophy with a nett 67.

The Senior Mens’ team had a great win 3½ - 2½ at Long Sutton.

The Stragglers hosted Tall Pines in the return fixture already holding a 3-2 lead.

Luckily the clouds parted during breakfast, they had a dry afternoon in lovely autumn sunshine and in almost a complete turnaround to last week they secured a 4 ½ - ½ win. The captains’ match was hotly contested (once the scoring system had been figured out) but the team of Veronica Cherry and Guy Timson took the honours 3 and 2 with a series of pars and a birdie after being all square on the twelth green. The overall match result was 7½ to 2½.

Warren Hamilton won the last club night of the season with a 12-hole stableford score of 29 points.
