There is a lot to celebrate at West Clewes as the 2013–14 season draws to a close, according to Welton's Chairman, Stuart Minall. "Looking back at the season, it's been better than we could ever have expected when I and the other new Directors came to the club last summer. The existing Directors had been keeping the club on life support and we weren't really ready when the season started – but things have changed. There is a huge amount of enthusiasm around the club and there is some pride returning.

"The football has been hugely enjoyable. Nick Beaverstock and Greg Langridge need to be applauded for the work they have put in this season and the success they have obtained. They have some good people supporting them and I hope that continues.

"Off the field, we've made some massive strides. We've materially increased the bar revenues and sponsorship income has grown significantly. We're now holding regular events and we are connecting with former players and their families on a regular basis. Our relationship with Dorothy House Hospice is something we want to maintain and improve – our charity day a couple of weeks ago was evidence of what we can achieve and we hope to make it an annual event.

"The shape of West Clewes is also changing – and for the better. The new amenities block and ticket office is nearly complete and this is a major improvement. Add to that our plans for the ground and our ambition of making West Clewes a modern, non-league ground which offers a lot to the community is definitely on track. Midsomer Norton Town Council needs a mention here, because their support and enthusiasm has been and will be invaluable.

"Make no mistake, there are still some things which aren't perfect around the club and they will be sorted out, with the tough decisions taken when they need to be.

"I sincerely hope that in twelve months' time, we can look back and say that we have continued to make the level of improvements in 2014–15 that we made in 2013–14."
