Welton made the long trip into Wiltshire and came away with three points after a determined performance in dismal conditions.
The game got started on a very heavy, slippery pitch after Saturday morning's downpour and it took quite a while for both teams to get accustomed to the conditions.
Calne had the first chance when a shot from Glen Armstrong was well saved by Scott Armstrong in the Welton goal. Calne striker, Steve Allinson, then pounced on poor defending from Welton and was one-on-one on the keeper, but he shot high over the bar.
Welton took the lead on eleven minutes with a quality goal and good work from Luke Palmer down the right, saw him deliver a brilliant ball to the far post, where it was met by Ryan Allen. His goalbound header was pushed away by Calne keeper, Jamie Bartlett, only to fall for Welton Captain, Chris Peck, and he made no mistake from close range.
Welton continued to press the home side, Allen went close with a glancing header and Steve Bridges was found in space, but he fired wide. Just before half-time, Allinson broke through the Welton back line, he was charging towards goal, Armstrong rushed out to close him down and the striker shot over the bar.
Welton started the second half in lively fashion, with Peck and Allen causing problems for the Calne defence. Welton keeper, Armstrong, had to be on top form to deny David Brighes. William Ollis then defended well for Welton to deny Aaron Hopkins.
As the half progressed, Welton Manager, Nick Beaverstock, rung the changes, bringing on Anthony Conradi and Dan Cottle. Minutes later, Calne were reduced to ten men when Calne striker, Steve Allinson, was shown a straight red card for an awful challenge on Welton left back, Dan Scrivens, that saw Scrivens receive lengthy treatment for dreadful stud marks down his leg. He couldn't continue and was replaced by Jack Francis.
Welton got the all important second goal with less than fifteen minutes remaining when good, solid defending by Carl Stone saw him clear his lines by charging into the Calne area and deliver a quality ball to Conradi on the left, who jinxed through his two markers to fire in a stunning shot that flew into the Calne net to give Welton that all-important second goal. Minutes later, the home side were reduced to nine men when Calne keeper, Bartlett, was sent off when he handled the ball outside of his area to deny Francis a real goal-scoring opportunity. Welton then controlled the final minutes of the game and rightly left Wiltshire with the three vital points.
