Non-League Day brought not only the opening of the new grandstand and terrace at West Clewes, but also the opportunity for progress in an FA Vase tie. A very healthy crowd packed into West Clewes, with most interested to see the new seating arrangements.

The opening exchanges saw Cheddar keep the ball well in patches, but Welton looked the more likely to score and they did so after twenty minutes, when Anthony Conradi was played in 25 yards out and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. The Welton lead didn't last for long as the Rovers defence just melted away and allowed the Cheddar winger to stroll into the box and smack a shot down to Andy King's right.

Moments later, Cheddar went 2–1 up. A ball into the box was punched away by Andy King in the Welton goal under pressure from a Cheddar player. Such was the force of the challenge that he did not get up for five minutes, however, the referee saw nothing wrong with the challenge and Cheddar managed to get the ball in the net to take the lead, much to the surprise of the crowd.

Still groggy, Andy King departed at half-time and he was replaced in the Welton goal by Manager, Nick Beaverstock. For the first twenty minutes of the second half, Welton struggled to get any kind of rhythm going and it looked like the game would pass them by. Reynolds and Scott joined the action and immediately Reynolds brought an excellent save from the Cheddar stopper.

Reynolds was not to be outdone and five minutes later, he got his name on the score sheet with a trademark bullet header. Welton were now pressing for the win and with minutes to spare, Dan Cottle raided down the left and let fly with a shot that crept inside the far post to send the West Clewes faithful into raptures and Welton into the next round.

Special mention should be made of the performance from Nick Beaverstock, who claimed a number of crosses late into the second half that an experienced Western League keeper would have been proud of. The result sees Welton take on Hengrove Athletic at home in the next round on Saturday, 4th October.

In the evening, Welton Rovers and Midsomer Norton Town Youth joined together to host a fundraising evening which saw the club packed to the rafters. BBC Radio Five Live also interviewed Welton Director, Gareth Paisey, as the club's approach to Non-League Day was picked up by various sports news agencies. The whole day was a fitting tribute to the passing of club stalwart, Karen Goddard, whose wake will be held at the club this week. Many at the club are still coming to terms with the news and she will besorely missed.
