Westfield extended their lead at the top of the league to four points with a comprehensive victory over a struggling Saltford side recently.

Westfield grabbed an early lead when Gregory was put through to cut inside and fire past the keeper at his near post. Although Westfield were beginning to look comfortable, a combination of good pressure from the away side and over-confidence saw Saltford come back in to the game and have a chance of their own after pouncing on a short back pass, the Saltford front man was denied by Fenwick in the Westfield goal. Gregory should have grabbed his second when a ball was squared to him with only the keeper to beat the ball bobbled up and his effort was skewed wide from ten yards.

The second half saw a much more spirited performance from the home side, the midfield in particular showing a greater willingness to work hard when not in possession. However, it was Saltford that had a glorious chance to equalize, as Gibbs conceded a penalty, only to see his blushes and the resultant penalty saved by Fenwick from the spot kick.

Westfield kicked on from here and Gregory then grabbed his second of the game as the ball was deflected through, inadvertently, by the Saltford right back for Gregory to latch on to and fire in to the far corner, giving Westfield a comfortable, if slightly fortuitous lead.

As Gregory went in search of his hat trick, Westfield could and should have extended their lead further. Then with twenty minutes remaining, Allen was introduced after recovering from a slight knock, Beauchamp moved to the left and further chances were created. Allen first raced onto a Beauchamp ball to round the keeper and slide in to the far corner to make it three.

To make matters worse for Saltford, they were reduced to ten men before Newman played an exquisite through ball for Allen to complete the scoring and grab his second with a beautifully deft chip over the on-rushing keeper.
