The Mid-Somerset Football League held their first final of the season at Radstock Town ground last Wednesday, 27th March, between Westfield A and Westhill Sports.
Westhill Sports started the game well, scoring in the twentieth minute with a glancing header by Tout that somehow got past the Westfield keeper.
The scoreline stayed at 1–0 until the eightieth minute, when Westfield's John Broomfield got the equaliser, taking the game into extra time.
It was quite an eventful last thirty minutes. Firstly, Westhill's player, Thatcher, was given his marching orders after pulling a Westfield player to the ground. As he was the last defender, the referee had no option.
Westhill were the next to score through Peter Clark and a few minutes later, after a push in the back by a Westhill player, which resulted in a penalty, coolly put in the back of the net by Mark Wareham.
At the end of the 120 minutes, the score was level 2–2, so the large crowd had to endure penalties and the outcome was Westhill Sports winning 3–1.
Brian Wells, President of the League, presented firstly the Man of the Match Trophy to Westhill's Captain, Joe Rogers, who also received the Baxter Shield for the team.
