Following the Third Round of the European Rally Championship, Rally Liepaja, held in the Baltic state of Latvia, Radstock’s Ross Whittock (alongside Chris Ingram) in the Toksport WRT-run Skoda Fabia R5 gave another mature and consistent run to finish a credible fourth overall and third in the Under-28 title.
The event, run over two days on high-speed gravel roads, was closely-fought out between the top four entrants. Norwegian, Oliver Solberg, seemed to have the measure by maintaining the lead for most of the event from Russian, Alexey Lukjanuk.
Ross and Chris developed a problem with overheating after debris punctured the radiator which prevented further battle, but roadside repairs held out to the finish keeping the championship leader, Lukasz Habaj, nearly a minute behind. This solid finish allows them to hold on to second place in the overall championship, only one point
behind Habaj, the current Polish Champion.
However, they extended their lead in the Under-28s to 34 points, in front of Cypriot teammate, Alexandros Tsouloftoas.
The next round is in June with Rally Poland. To follow the action, visit: www.ercfia.com
