Going into the final games of the season, Paulton Rovers made their way to local rivals Cam Valley. Knowing two victories would secure promotion to Division One, Rovers were in good spirits.
The first half started with Cam Valley pressing the Paulton back line, in the opening fifteen minutes, who were trying to find their rhythm on an uneven pitch.
The opening goal came midway through the half, when Curtis Taylor found space to play in Callum Carter whose shot found the back of the net. Rovers made it two just before the break, Carter getting on the scoresheet again from Tyler Lane’s pull back.
The second half started differently to the first with Paulton on the attack looking to kill off the game. It didn’t take long for Rovers to find their third of the match when Callum Carter became provider this time round, when his pass found Drew Lovelock at the back post, who placed it past Cam Valley’s Adrian Curtis.
Paulton’s fourth was controversial, when Lucas Schwalbe-Goodwin played in Carter whose run was adjudged to be onside by the referee, not to liking of the home linesman, who found Tyler Lane in the box to pass it in to an empty net.
Cam Valley picked themselves back up, looking for a response. They pulled a goal back through their right winger, when Smith was unable to stop his powerful effort. But Rovers weren’t ready to sit back heading into the last fifteen minutes of the game. Callum Carter completed his hat trick from Lane’s pinpoint pass. Lane then notched his second, substitute Harrison Rogers getting the assist.
Finally, with five minutes remaining, Rogers completed the scoring when Vaughan Taylor’s through ball put him through on goal and rifled it past Valley’s Curtis.
