A goal from Lewis Blanning was enough to win the Midsomer Norton and District Youth Knockout Cup for Timsbury Under-16s against a resolute and determined Larkhall side.
Honours were even in the first third of the encounter, with Timsbury's Ash Curtis prominent in winning most of the challenges in the air in midfield. Timsbury seemed to be getting the edge as time progressed as Brad Whittock played a delightful throughball to teammate, Heatley, who in turn found Kane Frith, whose shot went just wide of the Larkhall post. Larkhall now had a good spell and had lots of possession and started to threaten the Timsbury goal. However, it was Timsbury who broke the deadlock when Blanning pounced following a free kick.
Larkhall now had to show dogged defence as Timsbury increased the pressure and after Charlie Cook played a superb ball through to Blanning, it was only a matter of inches that denied the player his second of the game as his shot just cleared the crossbar. Close to half-time, Larkhall did put the ball into the Timsbury net, but it was ruled to be offside.
The game developed into a fierce midfield battle and clear goalscoring chances were very much at a premium. Timsbury's striker, Rico Sobers, was denied by a superb full-length save from the Larkhall goalkeeper and literally seconds later, his teammate, Heatley, struck the crossbar with a stunning strike from outside the box. This was the last clear goalscoring effort of the match and the scoreline remained 1–0 to Timsbury, who reaped the rewards of a hard-earned victory against a very well drilled and disciplined Larkhall side.Congratulations must go to the management team of Clive Curtis and Phil Clark for guiding the team to their first trophy of the season.
