SODBURY 0 WRITHLINGTON LADIES 1sts 10
Eleanor and Alex’s first rubber was a slow-paced game and pair, which meant we had to focus and play our game, not theirs. Steady and consistent led to a comfortable win for 6-0, 6-1.
The second set opposition was played at a faster pace, which meant that we had to up our game from the previous match. We lost a bit of concentration which resulted in a lot of unforced errors. Thankfully, the pep talks worked, and we upped the energy and finished 6-1, 6-3.
Mandy and Ces, feeling pumped up after rocking to Bon Jovi, took on experienced Ann and young Junior, Abbie. There were some great rallies, but no dives from Mandy this week. All the headbanging must have cleared our heads as we took the first rubber, 6-1, 6-1.
In the second rubber, our opponents were two lovely Ladies, and the match was played in great spirit, but Writhlington came out on top with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Tina and Annette were ‘the Comeback kids’ from being down in their first set, 4-2 and then 5-3, but they turned it around to take the set, 7-5.
Their second set went in a similar fashion, but they were able to burst ahead to claim it, 6-4. A super win!
Tina and Annette had a quick victory over the SBL second pairing, with a comfortable 6-1, 6-0 win.
Cerys and Sally easily won their first rubber and finished in under an hour with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Sally and Cerys were ahead 0-3, however, the opposition came back to 3-3. Each game went with serve, but Writhlington battled until 5-5 and then managed to get ahead and win the set 7-5. SBL stepped it up and won the second set, 5-7.
The match ended with a Championship tie-break, and Writhlington battled through to win, 10-6.

Two incidents turned this match from a good-natured friendly into a near-brawl!
Late-on in Graham Steer and Andy Jeffery’s first rubber versus Simon and Chris, a disputed line-call resulted in Graham and Simon “not being able to see the other’s point of view”.
A let was eventually played, and Graham and Andy went on to win, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
In their second rubber versus David and Tom, Graham and Andy had just started a tie-break instead of a third when there were problems with the lights. Graham and Andy did go on to win, 2-6, 7-6, 1-0.
Meanwhile, Chris Cox and Richard Chapman were quietly cruising their way to comfortable victories over both pairs, 6-1, 6-4 (vs David and Tom) and 6-3, 6-4 (vs Simon and Chris).
