On Friday, 12th May at 9am, Clutton based Ieuan took part in a 1.5km swim to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie, two charities very close to his heart.

At just 12-years-old, Ieuan, who attends Beechen Cliff School, took part in Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie’s nation wide call to join ‘Swimathon 2023’ to make a difference to people who suffer with, and have been affected by cancer.

Completing the 1.5km in an incredible 49 minutes, Ieuan not only impressed spectators, but also raised an amazing £425 for the charities.

Taking to his JustGiving page, Ieuan said: “I have enjoyed being in the pool and the sea since I was nine weeks old. I love the water. I have swimming lessons and diving lessons.”

Ieuan’s strong passion for swimming has meant he has been able to take part in an incredible challenge, all whilst raising much-needed funds.

Calling for people to join the challenge, that took across the UK place this month, the charities said: ’Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are calling on the nation to get down to the pool for Swimathon 2023- thousands of swimmers, two great causes, one big charity challenge.

‘In May, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading to over 300 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners. Together we can really make a difference.

‘We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.’

Swimathon, the official Facebook page for the charities fundraiser, took to Social Media to thank Ieuan following his challenge completion: “We’re delighted to tell you that Ieuan completed his 1.5km in a fantastic time of 49 minutes, at his local pool, Hengrove Park Leisure Centre...

...and now he’s already back in school!

“All in a day’s work for a 12-year-old Swimathon swimmer!

“Everyone at Swimathon is so proud of you Ieuan - well done and thank you so much for taking part.”
