Overwhelmed with apples and pears? Don’t know what to do with them all? Then bring them for pressing at the Big Family Apple Day on Saturday, 1st October from 12 noon – 4 p.m. at The Rec, Tilley Lane (BA2 0BE), in support of Farmborough Community Shop.
There will be two large apple presses to turn all your apples and pears into tasty juice, and you will be able to learn how to turn your juice into cider, too. Remember to bring a bucket or suitable container(s) for your juice! There is a small charge per five litres of pressed juice to cover running costs.
No apples and pears? No worries! Come with friends and family to celebrate the abundance of local fruit. Watch the apple pressing and enjoy something from our community BBQ, with cider, ice-cream, and local apple juice.
Arrangements are also being made for a local apple expert to attend, so come with any questions about how to grow this wonderful fruit in your own back garden, or get the best from the trees you already have.
Plus, bring your tennis rackets and footballs for family fun on the Rec, try your luck in the raffle, meet your neighbours, and find out more about your community shop. For more information, call: 01761 470690 or email: [email protected]
Farmborough’s Community Shop is planned to open next spring/summer, with a decision on the planning application due at the end of October. Fundraising for the new community venture has raised over £36,000 of the target of £50,000, which will enable the application of grants to cover additional funding to build, fit out and stock the new shop.
