The fields of Ston Easton were bathed in glorious spring sunshine, which made for a wonderful day of horse racing. There were beautiful horses, many, many dogs of all sizes, people from town and country, some enjoying huge picnics in a fantastic range of hampers, whilst others partook of the retail therapy on offer.

Third race, the Uphill and Son Ladies’ Open with six runners. The winner was Masterleaderman owned by Harriet Tucker, Elaine Tucker and Simon Collingwood. Harriet is just 21 years old, she also trained and rode him to success. Harriet works for champion trainer, Paul Nicholls. Harriet lives at Blatchbridge, near Frome and is a member of Frome young Farmers club. Her ambition for next year is to train and ride in hunter chases, so perhaps we might see the pair at Cheltenham or Aintree next spring.

The day finishes with pony racing, a wonderful chance for aspiring jockeys to try the sport. The first of these races, the 13.2hh pony race, had two divisions, in Division Two, second placed rider was Freddie Gingell, from Mere and third was Witham Friary-based Megan Bevan.

Amongst the crowd was Jacob Rees-Mogg MP with his family.

Secretary, George Pullen, said of the day,: “It has been a fantastic day, really quality racing, good going and fabulous weather with a huge crowd. Let’s hope for the same again next year.”
