Speaking about the project, a museum volunteer said: “The Market Clock has been a symbol of Radstock for nearly 120 years. In Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee year of 1897, there was a ‘vocal section of the public clamouring for a town clock’. George Coombs, who initiated the building of the Market Hall in 1898, listened to that cry; the clock was installed by Frank S. Lane, a Radstock-based jeweller.
“It is estimated that the total cost of the clock restoration and upgrade is slightly more than £16,000. This sum will include refurbishing the clock movement and strike, automatic winding, auto regulation and night silencing.
Admission to the recital will include the interval refreshments of tea/coffee and homemade cake. Tickets can be purchased from Radstock Museum or
Kathleen Dando on: 01761 470606, or at the door of the church on the night.
Also at the recital will be a display relating to the stained glass windows at the church and an exhibition of local needlecraft. Pictures and photographs of the Rectors of St Peter’s Church, Camerton, will also be on show, including the Reverend John Skinner.
All proceeds from the evening will be for the Radstock Museum Clock Restoration Project.
