Radstock Museum opened its doors last Saturday for a free children’s event with a Victorian Christmas theme. The Museum was packed, with over 250 visitors. Everywhere you looked there were children enjoying making toys, decorations and trinkets in the same way as their Victorian ancestors would have done over a hundred years ago.

Some of the visitors took the opportunity to dress up in period clothes for an old style photograph, which they could then take away as a memento of a great afternoon out.

The Museum’s volunteers turned out in force, all dressed in Victorian costumes, to teach the children the necessary skills and techniques and by the end of the afternoon, all were exhausted, but delighted, with the success of the event.

Apart from the Museum Shop being open between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, 16th December for buying last minute Christmas presents, the Museum is now closed until the beginning of February, when it re-opens with an exhibition entitled ‘Douay to Downside’, the story of the setting up of Downside Abbey and School.
