WESTFIELD residents pulled out the stops again for the annual Front Garden competition.
Judging on a beautiful July day, Mr Rob Wicke, Westfield Parish Council’s flower contractor said that the gardens were outstanding again and it was a joy to view them.
Open to residents and businesses, the garden competition organised by the parish council celebrates the efforts residents who help to make the parish a beautiful place to live and work.
The winner of the best Front Garden was Mr and Mrs Jennings of Nightingale Way. Judge Rob said: “This beautifully designed perennial garden delighted the judges with its harmony, colour, and exceptional planting.

“Showcasing an incredible variety of healthy, well-tended plants, the garden was at its absolute best and demonstrated the rewards of careful planning and dedicated year-round care.
“Now coming into its own at exactly the right time of the season, the garden provided a stunning display of texture, form, and vibrant blooms. Its balance and maturity created a peaceful and inviting space, making it a genuine pleasure to judge.
“The garden is a wonderful example of how thoughtful planting and consistent maintenance can combine to produce a truly outstanding display.”
Mr and Mrs Jennings’ garden was also commended by a passer-by who said it was a pleasure to walk past every day. Mrs Jennings responded: "We’re happy that the garden is appreciated by passers-by.
“We do get lots of comments and this year it is looking at its best. It’s all very personal to us and each plant has its own story; some even have a name!”

Mr and Mrs Tucker of Coxwynne Close were the winners of the container section.
The judge was captivated by the immediate wow factor of this outstanding display; their carefully arranged baskets, containers, and wall decorations combined to create a stunning visual impact that stood out from the moment it was seen.
More than simply showcasing individual planted containers, the exhibit demonstrated the importance of overall presentation and design. Every element worked together to create a cohesive and eye-catching display that reflected creativity, skill, and attention to detail.
The result was judged to be an inspiring exhibit that left a lasting impression, highlighting the high standard of this year's competition.
Mr Tucker said: “We’re surprised but happy to have won this on our first attempt. My wife and I tend all the plants along the wall - there’s a lot of watering!”
Westfield Parish Council is extremely grateful to Thomsons Hardware of Radstock who continue to support the event each year with a voucher for the winners.
Parish councillor Diana Cooper said: “There were a high number of entries this year, which has made the judging even harder that usual. The winning garden stood out due to the variety of plants and the colours. It is a lovely front garden.
“The overall effect of the containers along the wall of Mr and Mrs Tucker’s home is stunning and a credit to them.
“We love this competition each year and look forward to next year’s entries.”
