As most people will have noticed, the Christmas lights stretching the length of the Fosseway and Wells Road in Westfield are now lit up in all their glory.
The occasion of the annual switch-on took place on Thursday, 28th November, where lots of Westfield residents and groups came together to take part in the event in perfect conditions – it was dry, calm and not too cold.
Father Christmas was extremely busy, greeting all the young people that had been brought to say hello. The mulled wine and mince pies went down a treat with their mums and dads.
Westfield Parish Council’s thanks have to go to the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band, who accompanied the singing, which was beautifully led by Westfield Voices and Westfield Primary School Choir.
Thanks to the ladies that sang and to Miss Offer, the music coordinator at Westfield Primary School, for bringing the choir along to join in. The children also gave a lovely rendition of Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus is coming to town.
Revd Ian Rousell of St Peter’s Church gave a short talk to convey the meaning of advent. His words were warmly appreciated.
The lights were switched on by two children from Westfield’s local schools – Ewan Davis, from Fosse Way School and Archie Collins, of Westfield Primary School and with a countdown from ten, they did the job admirably.
The Chairman of Westfield Parish Council, Cllr Geoff Fuller, said: “Westfield Parish Council is always pleased to provide an evening where the community can get together to start the Christmas celebrations.
“The Christmas displays on the lamp-posts run along the whole length of Westfield to light up the parish, hopefully residents and passers-by enjoy them.
“We would like to wish all those that live or work in Westfield a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
As well as thanking the providers of music Westfield Parish Council would also like to thank all those that gave their time to make the event as special as ever – Strode Sounds, AF Denning Electrical, Rev Rousell, those that helped to serve up the mulled wine and not forgetting Santa – and his helper, of course!
