A FREE course to explore and reconnect to nature began on Thursday, February 26.

The six-week Nature Craft Connection course is part of the Somer Valley Rediscovered project, and aims to deepen our connections to the living world and our relationship with it.

The course takes place at Swallows Community Cafe in Radstock from 10am to 12.30pm every Thursday throughout March until April 2.

A spokesperson said: “The course offers easy practices to engage with nature and to learn more of its plants, animals, and the land around us through natural land skills, crafting and creative activities, mindfulness, sharing inspirations and wandering in nature.

“The creative practice will include a variety of nature crafts using materials such as willow, charcoal, wool and wood.

“You will be guided to be aware of the living world around us, and how it can support us. There will be a chance to check in where we will be able to share and hear from each other.

“The course allows for people to explore and experience nature according to their own relationship with it, to learn and enjoy it in ways that naturally suit them best. There is no expectation to engage in these activities, you can see how you feel on the day.”

Participants will be walking down Waterside Valley to set up camp chairs by the river and explore the surroundings. A fire will be lit to heat water for hot drinks. If it’s wet the group will move to an indoor crafting space.

This course is funded by and part of the Somer Valley Rediscovered project, a strategic green infrastructure project led by Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES) Council, Wessex Water, B&NES Public Health and Natural England, funded from the West of England Combined Authority Green Recovery Fund.
