CONCERNS over rural crime, women’s safety, and anti-social behaviour were highlighted during a recent visit to Frome by Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody.

The visit, hosted by Anna Sabine, MP for Frome and East Somerset, took place in Frome last week, including a walk down Catherine Hill where they met local shop owners and residents to discuss the impact of rural crime, women’s safety, and anti-social behaviour.

Speaking after the visit, Ms Sabine said: “Frome and East Somerset sits on the edge of the Avon and Somerset area, which can sometimes leave residents of Frome, Midsomer Norton, Westfield and all the villages in between feeling a little forgotten.

“I was pleased to be able to bring the Commissioner here to hear directly from some of those affected by crime and anti social behaviour as well as discussing the need for more rural attention and visibility in the area. It was a really positive and welcome chat with Clare and I will continue to push for the resources and support our community needs to feel safe.”

During the visit, shop owners and local residents shared their experiences of crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. They met with local shop owner Anthony Hick, whose store Assembly was recently the target of a break-in that left its front glass destroyed and thousands of pounds of stock stolen.

Both emphasised the importance of visible policing and community engagement to tackle these issues, and pledged to explore ways to increase support and resources for local communities.

The visit aimed to highlight Ms Sabine’s ongoing work to ensure that rural areas like Midsomer Norton, Radstock and Frome as well as our rural communities and farmers are not overlooked when it comes to policing priorities, and that the voices of local people are heard at the highest level.
