It’s time again for the Mystery photo of our area! Last week’s photo was of Smallcombe Road, Clandown, thought to show residents (and some of you recognised family!) celebrating King George V’s Silver Jubilee in 1935.
Well done to Mrs Millard, John Whittock, Winston Eyles, Karen Thayer, Jeff Parsons, Terry Veale, Steve Willcox, Rob Hawke and Jan Dowding, Martin Horler and Ken Cottle, who all gave us the correct answer.
If you think you can guess this week’s entry, above (with thanks to reader, Beryl Rhymer), Email: [email protected] with your answer, and even a photograph of what the scene looks like today, or send it to us via Facebook: @MNRJournal. Answer in next week’s Journal.
Editor: With regard to the Mystery Photograph in issue 1964, 4th October, that had many of you baffled. Last week, we revealed that it was ‘Hayeswood Road’, Timsbury. We have been informed that the photo is of The Avenue, formerly known as Coalpit Lane, and referred to in times past as ‘New Road’. New Road, which led to The Avenue, is now called Church Hill, according to a reader.
My disclaimer is that I’m afraid we can only go by the original labelling on our photographs (and we couldn’t find a New Road – now we know why), so sometimes we may need to call upon local knowledge!
