Did you manage to guess last week’s Mystery Photograph? A few of you with wrong guesses asked to know in advance and be put out of your misery! It was Green Parlour, in Writhlington, and we have enjoyed hearing your stories of childhoods spent there.

Thank you to Helen Barnes, who got in touch to tell us about her family home. She says: Last week’s Mystery Photograph is of Green Parlour, Writhlington.

“My family, the Beck’s, have lived there for four generations since the early 1920s.

“The thatched cottage burned down before then, as my dad, James Beck, who is now ninety next month, says he can only remember it being a tiled roof on that cottage. The main house used to be a Coaching Inn, many many years ago, as it is on the old road to Frome.

“Keep printing the old photographs. We all love trying to guess. This week though, we have come up trumps!”

Well done to: Mr Swift, Winston Eyles, Josh Wyatt, Angela Roberts, Sylvia White, Frankie Ford, Sid Johnson, Helen Barnes, Terry Reakes and the Thursday Night Club at Sun Chemical, who all guessed correctly. Well done, everybody!

Thank you to Helen Barnes and Terry Reakes, who both sent us photographs of the scene today.

If you think you can guess the location of the photograph (top), supplied by Radstock Museum, and would like a mention, email: [email protected] or via Facebook or Twitter @MNR Journal. You can even send us a photograph of what the scene looks like today.

A very big thank you to Radstock Museum, who continue to support this feature in partnership with The Journal.

Don’t forget the Museum’s ‘Memories over Elevenses’ event, which is held on the first Friday of the month from 10.30 a.m. until 12 noon, where visitors can bring old photographs, objects and documents and share your stories and knowledge with the team.

Complementary tea, coffee and cakes are on offer – please bring along a friend, or come alone and make some new ones!
