B&NES Community Awards is an opportunity to thank our volunteers who do such a good job in helping the local community. Last Thursday, a special commemorative event was held in the Guildhall to thank local volunteers – and Paulton’s volunteers were well represented.

In the Volunteer Team of the Year, Laney Sandon James and husband, Mark, were nominated for their work with the homeless in Bath. Every Saturday afternoon, Laney and Mark make their way from Paulton to Bath, armed with warm clothes and food for homeless people sleeping rough. If you would like to make a donation or to help in any way, please email: [email protected]/* */!function(t,e,r,n,c,a,p){try{t=document.currentScript||function(){for(t=document.getElementsByTagName('script'),e=t.length;e--;)if(t[e].getAttribute('data-cfhash'))return t[e]}();if(t&&(c=t.previousSibling)){p=t.parentNode;if(a=c.getAttribute('data-cfemail')){for(e=',r='0x'+a.substr(0,2)|0,n=2;a.length-n;n+=2)e+='%'+('0'+('0x'+a.substr(n,2)^r).toString(16)).slice(-2);p.replaceChild(document.createTextNode(decodeURIComponent(e)),c)}p.removeChild(t)}}catch(u){}}()/* */

Also nominated for the Volunteer Team of the year was Pride in Paulton (PiP) which is a group of volunteers who are dedicated to improving the environment in Paulton, providing hanging baskets in the Summer and Christmas Trees in the winter and planting and caring for flowers throughout the village.

Nominated for Volunteer Leader of the Year was another Paulton resident, Julie Harrington. Julie does a huge amount of work for Paulton Brownies and has raised a considerable sum of money for Macmillan Cancer Support through coffee mornings.

Finally, the Business in the Community Award included Tim Jennings, formerly of Somer Bus. Tim has been instrumental in ensuring for the first time ever, a school bus runs from Paulton to Norton Hill School. He even drives the bus himself, although he is unofficially retired. B&NES Cllr, Liz Hardman, said: “I was so proud of our Paulton nominees, who are doing so much for local people.”
